Hi everyone, SPORTS OUTREACH CAMP 2 We have just finished another sports camp here in Chiang Mai. This year we were able to host 280 kids from the local area for two days of sports, crafts, teaching and just plain fun. Our focus was "No Limits" and we used Matthew 19:26 as our theme verse.
With the Olympics just around the corner we felt that this would be a great backdrop as well. Each of the 6 colours of the flag were incorporated as gospel colours in the sports.
It is fair to say that we had a great time. 75 volounteers help run the show with Aajarn Ming being the most energetic of us all! Please look at the photos of the camp and see how the supporters money from the UK helps kids out here have a lot of fun. GIRLS PRISON Bronwen has continues to go into the girls prison during our summer holiday and last week all the Coe boys went too! The four of them were slightly nervous but have to say that it was a lot of fun and a good chance to practice our Thai. The girls were very interested to see whether the twins especially had eyebrows as they are very blonde and not that noticeable and also if the boys had girlfriends!! Bronwen has also encouraged a couple of students, past and present to go with her as well and they have taught volleyball and given their testimonies. SPORTS LEADERSHIP TRIP TO MAE SOT A little while ago the family went with 17 of Matt's sports leaders to a migrant school for displaced Burmese children who daily walk across the border to the safety of this school. Some have lost all their family and some are told to stay at the school for their protection. In all 150 kids stay there during the course of a week. This trip came to be as a result of Matt teaching students of parents who work for Partners Relief and Development who are working tirelessly to help the oppressed in Burma. Basically, what you have heard in the media is true and indeed a lot worse. The group were fortunate to hear from a Free Burma Ranger who gave us first hand knowledge of how it really is. Please look up "Free Burma Rangers" on Youtube to see more. The camp was amazing with everybody wishing to stay longer. We will be going back soon to help build, paint or whatever else we can do to help these kids and support the teachers and Pastor who work there. They need help. BRIDGE OVER THE RIVER KWAI At the beginning of our summer holiday here, we were able to visit the west of Thailand where the famous Burmese railway was built. This was a matter of pilgrimage for us as one of our relatives in Wales' father was a POW who helped build the railway. I have posted some photos in the photo book. Please look at the following links to appreciate what happened there and the subsequent rebuilding and healing of the bad times. http://www.hellfirepass.com/museum_hellfire_pass.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_Railway Enjoy the photos and will write again soon, In Him, Matt |
